What are cookies?
Cookies consist of portions of code (computer files or partial data files) sent from a server to the user’s Internet browser, automatically stored on your computer by the browser, and automatically sent to the server at each occurrence or subsequent access to the Site. A cookie will typically contain the name of the website from which the cookie comes from, the life span of the cookies (or how long it will remain on the user’s device) and a value, which is usually a unique number generated randomly. When they return, the cookies are sent back to the website of origin (first-party cookies) or another site that recognizes them (third-party cookies). Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognize the user’s device and have different purposes such as, for example, allow you to navigate between pages efficiently, remembering your favorite website and, in general, improve the browsing experience. They also help to ensure that the advertising content displayed online are more targeted to a user and to his interests.
If you choose to disable cookies, this may affect and/or limit his surfing experience within the Site, for example, you might not be able to visit certain sections of the Site or could not receive personalized information when visiting the Site.
How they work and how you delete cookies?
The operating modes and options to limit or block cookies can be adjusted by changing the settings on your internet browser. The majority of Internet browsers are initially set to accept cookies automatically, but the user can change these settings to block cookies or to be alerted whenever cookies are sent to his device. There are several ways to manage cookies for this purpose, it is necessary to refer to the instruction manual, or the help screen of your browser, to learn how to adjust or change the settings of the same. The user is able to change the default configuration and disable cookies (i.e. block), by setting the security level higher.
Listed below are links that provide information regarding cookie management by the following browsers:
If the user uses different devices to access the site (for example, computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.) the user must ensure that each browser on each device is adjusted to reflect your cookie preferences. To remove cookies from the Internet browser of your smartphone/tablet you should refer to the user device manual.
Below is a list and explanation.
Technical cookies include necessary, functional, and analytical cookies. Necessary cookies are essential for the proper operation of the Site and allow users to browse the Site and take advantage of its features (e.g. allow the storage of previous actions, or allow you to save the user’s session and/or performing other activities strictly necessary for the operation of the Site).
Functional cookies allow the Site to remember the user’s choices (for example the user name) to provide a more customized and optimized experience. Functional cookies are not essential to the operation of the Site, but it improves the quality and experience of navigation. If you do not accept these cookies, content and site features may be reduced and/or limited.
Analytical cookies help to understand how users interact with the website providing information on the previous page, the number of sections and pages viewed, time spent on the site and each event that has emerged during navigation, such as error messages, and help to understand all the difficulties that you encounter in the use of the site. This information may be associated with user details such as IP address, domain or browser; however, they are analyzed along with other user information so as not to identify a particular user to the other. These cookies are collected and aggregated anonymously and enable NVL to improve the functionality of the Site.
Targeting or profiling cookies are used to present matching content to the user and to his/her interests. They can be used to display targeted ads, to publish advertisements tailored to your interests, or to limit the number of times the user views an advertisement. In addition, they help to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns on the Site; when explicit consent has been granted, NVL may use these cookies to remember what the user has visited and share this information with third parties, including advertisers and agencies who could use their own cookies to collect information on the activities performed by users on the Site.
Sharing cookies (social networking) are needed to allow the user to interact with the site through their social accounts and serve, for example, to “like” and to “share” products/material with their social contacts.
The Site uses or can use, also in combination, the following types of cookies:
– Session cookies, which are stored on your computer for purely technical and functional requirements, for the transmission of session identifiers required to enable a safe and efficient site; they are deleted at the end of the session (hence the name), with the closing of the browser;
– Persistent cookies, which are stored on your computer hard drive until they expire or deleted by the user. Through persistent cookies users who access the site (or any other customers using the same computer) is automatically recognized at each visit.
The table below lists the third-party cookies on the site NVL. The latter fall under the direct and exclusive responsibility of the third-party, and are divided into the following main categories:
– Analytic cookies. Used to collect and analyze statistical information on access/visits to the website. In some cases, combined with other information such as the entered credentials for access to restricted areas (your email address and password), they can be used to identify the user (personal habits, website visited, downloaded content, types interactions carried out, etc.).
– Widgets. This category includes all the components of a graphic user interface of a program which aims to facilitate user interaction with the program itself (examples are widget cookies from Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube ).
– Advertising. This category includes the cookies used to deliver advertising services within a site.
If the user does not wish to receive third-party cookies on his/her device, he/she will be able, through the links listed below, to access information and consent forms to such third parties and exclude the use.
These cookies are not controlled directly from the site, therefore, to withdraw consent is necessary to refer to the websites of third parties or refer to the website http://www.youronlinechoices.com to get information on how to delete or manage cookies, depending on the browser, and to manage preferences about third party profiling cookies.
